Desirable Features for Your Next Vacuum

Posted on

Your vacuum cleaner can be one of the most important appliances that you have for keeping your home's interior clean. A quality vacuum can last you for many years before it will need to be replaced, but you may not be aware of all of the options you can choose from to make sure you are satisfied with your device.

Brush Head Attachments

When you are vacuuming carpeting, upholstery, or other fabric surfaces, it can be difficult to reach some of the dirt and debris that may be wedged between the fibers. However, a brush head attachment can be extremely effective at cleaning these areas. Choosing a vacuum that has quality brush head attachments in a variety of sizes can make cleaning these surfaces easy and convenient.

Cord Management

Vacuum cleaners will typically have very long cords that can allow these units to be used to clean large rooms. However, this can lead to the cords suffering damage if they are not carefully managed. While vacuums will often include an area for you to wrap the cord around to keep it organized, it can be easy to make mistakes when wrapping the cord that may result in it suffering damage. An example of this can be unintentionally twisting the cord, which can damage the wiring inside it. However, you can opt for a vacuum that has a retractable cord, allowing you to avoid this problem. The mechanism used to retract the cord will ensure the cord is correctly wrapped when the vacuum is not being used.

Low Profile

The profile of the vacuum cleaner is another factor to consider as you are making this purchase. A vacuum that has a high profile, or a tall head, may have a difficult time getting under sofas, beds, and other pieces of furniture. In addition to choosing a vacuum that has a low profile, you may also want one that can bend near the end as this will provide it with a far greater range of movement. If you use a less flexible attachment or one with a taller vacuum head, you will most likely have to move furniture around in order to adequately vacuum your home's floors.

Allergen Filters

Some people may be under the assumption that any vacuum will be effective at eliminating allergens from the surfaces in their homes. However, many allergens will be small enough that they will be able to fit through the small openings in the vacuum bag. If allergens are a major concern for you, it is important to choose a vacuum that has a filter system that can capture the extremely small particles that make up common allergens.

If you are looking for a new vacuum, consider what features you'd like before you commit to a purchase. Once you have an idea of what you'd like, shop around to see what models and vacuum cleaner sales prices are available to get a good deal on a vacuum that will fit your needs.
